During its short existence, the band has already released a genre-bending EP (Thank You and Goodnight, 1999). Full-on rockers, smooth freestyle lyrics, and trips into ska and acoustic ballads all show up in this early product of Very Mediocre's tireless songwriting. The band is presently preparing material for a full-length release.
The group's live show has gained them a great deal of respect from local fans and other bands alike. Frontman Tarek Al-Zand's electrifying presence sets any crowd on fire, and the players' tight musicianship and innovative breaks rattle the ear drums and widen the eyes of all on-lookers. Whether blowing out the amps or laying low, Very Mediocre needs to be seen and heard to be believed.
The group's most notable performance was UBC's 1999 campus-wide band battle Show-A-Rama in which they placed first. Other venues include Shinerama (a benefit concert for Cystic Fibrosis research) and numerous gigs at local pubs.
The next logical step for Very Mediocre is to increase their exposure through concerts and recording, to allow a larger audience to experience their vibe.
